Can FMCSA reach you?
FMCSA tells a new carrier which kind of safety audit it has been selected for by phone or mail. Enter a USDOT number to see the name and physical address FMCSA has on file, find the phone and mailing address on SAFER, and check they're all still right.
Why the record matters
FMCSA's page on new-entrant safety audits says it “will tell carriers which type of audit they have been selected for by phone or mail,” and that “it is essential to maintain all contact information current so you are able to receive FMCSA communications” (FMCSA, New Entrant Safety Audits (opens in a new tab)).
When a carrier's legal business name, address, or other details change, FMCSA's registration page says it should update its USDOT and operating authority records “in a timely manner.” Updates can be made by filing an MCS-150 series form, and FMCSA says updating your information is free (FMCSA, Updating Your Registration or Authority (opens in a new tab)). This lookup shows what FMCSA's QCMobile service returns for a USDOT number: the legal name, any DBA name, and the physical address. When we checked a live record, it did not return the phone or the MCS-150 date. SAFER's Company Snapshot shows those and the mailing address, so each result links to it.
What happens to the number you enter
It goes to FMCSA's QCMobile service, and the answer comes back to this page. We don't save the number or the result to a database, and our analytics records only that the tool was used, never the number. The server holds each answer in memory for up to 24 hours so a repeat lookup doesn't go back to FMCSA.
